Old Man

08/09/2020

A little old man lives inside my head.
He curses at the wind,
calls cell phones the devil,
and only eats split-pea soup.
He has a lot to learn.

A little old man lives inside my head.
He wants me to go to bed early,
says that young men should
take care of their bodies,
that he made that mistake too.
He thinks I shouldn't spend
so much money, that this is why I
can't afford anything, curses
LimeRed Teahouse
for draining my wealth.
He has a lot to learn.

A little old man lives inside my head.
When I sign petitions, he says they
don't work. When I defend
human rights, he says
that back in his day nobody complained.
When other people look and act like me, he sneers
calls them queers, and
recalls a good ol' day when
no one was allowed to be one of them.
He has a lot to learn.

I want to kick the little old man out of my head.
I chain him to the wall and
shove a gag in his mouth.
I let him rot.

When I dispose of his bones,
I mutter and complain.
I sound just like him.
