Mshiki

My nurse is African and I told her I'm a
horticulture major and she told me about
what it was like in Africa when she was
younger— how she misses the rich, fresh
coconut milk from the ones that would fall
from the trees, how she and the other kids
would pick cashews off the ground and
shell them. How tedious it was to shell
cashews that are $10 for a small
container here, how she can't find natural
coconut milk anywhere that doesn't taste
like water. She told me about how she
loathed to milk cows but how much she
misses their milk now. How TV only ran
from 5PM to 9PM and it was just the
news, what the president said, and no
cartoons. I hope she gets to visit again
one day, to eat cashews, and to milk
cows.
